Word for Today....Put Your Foot On It!
Scripture: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Gen 3:15
IT SHALL BRUISE THY HEAD...
We (the seed of Adam and Eve) shall bruise the devil's head. What a powerful, commanding word. This is right after God has found out that Eve has eaten and given to Adam the fruit of the tree that He commanded them not to eat. Well, let's see how it all started.
Adam and Eve were created by God and for God. The Bible says that in His image and likeness were they created. He placed Adam in the garden to "keep it and to dress it" and then gave Adam a spiritual sleeping pill so as to take Eve from his side. He then tells them that EVERY tree that is on the earth is available to them except the tree in the midst of the garden which was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Now Chapter 3 of Genesis opens by saying that the serpent which was more subtle than any other beast asked Eve a question that diverted her eyes off of God's commandment and on the road to the things of disobedience. Satan asked, "Can you eat of EVERY tree in this garden?" (paraphrased). Eve confirms God commandments of their not touching or eating of the "forbidden tree". Satan plants a seed of disobedience and tells her that God doesn't really mean that you will die, but that you will be as gods and will know right from wrong. Herein lies the first mistake of Eve; the Bible says she notices that the tree was good for food, good to look upon and was would make them wise. Eve and her husband already had access to all the food they could ever eat. They lived in the most beautiful living quarters created and were wise (so to speak) because they were made in the image and likeness of God. Why would they want to be as "gods" when they were already like God? How many times do we look outside of God’s Will for our lives because something LOOKS good?
But moving forward: we all know the result of that conversation. Eve ate of the tree and also gave to her husband Adam to eat and their eyes became open and they knew that they were naked. They made apron clothing out of fig leaves and hid themselves in the middle of the tree as if God could see through the tree and their leaves. So God finds Adam and Eve hiding among the trees because they had allowed Satan to pollute their innocence and purity. Now the punishment phase of the story begins, but so does the glorious promise of redemption. It is my belief that God never tears down without the promise and hope of rebuilding again. It is His nature to love us and His desire to save us. The Bible says that He would that NONE shall perish but that all would come to repentance. God tells Satan that because he caused the woman to sin that he would suffer forever and the seed of the woman would bruise his head. In other words, the seed of Eve (whom we are) would forever have a foot on his head. He would be given limited power to bruise the foot of the offspring. I must admit I would rather have a bruised heel than a bruised head. If anyone has EVER had a headache, you understand my statement.
The head represents the limited authority that God had given the devil. When the devil was kicked out of Heaven he fell to the earth and took it over as if he were his. Anything that the devil takes as a place of territory is the place that he calls home. This is why the earth was void and without form because the devil always wants to pollute what is pure. The enemy can’t form anything, he can only take was is already in existence and reconstruct it. He takes your faith and changes it to doubt. He has angels of darkness and transformed them into what would look like angels of light. He doesn’t have creative power, only God does and He has given a portion of that same power to YOU (who is in the image of God). The Bible says the power of life and death lies in the tongue. When we speak, we create (or rather bring into existence) what has already been created. But God didn't want Satan to have nor be in command over anything that belonged to Him so He created man; but man failed. However, God was already in the planning process for Jesus to make His arrival to put Satan under His foot. Jesus declared that Satan and every other enemy would be His footstool; the object of elevation and promotion. Footstools are used to rest ones foot or to elevate a person from one level to the next. Footstool involved upward motion and upward progressions. Satan had done a pretty good job of tricking Eve, but he hadn't counted on Jesus taking back what they would give up. He hadn't counted on the grace of God being extended to those of us who believe on Jesus and that same power that Jesus had being given back to man. We have authority to put our foot on the devil's head and to keep him there. He doesn't have a right to be above our ankles. He doesn't have the right to whisper in our ears or tells us lies.
If you don’t put your foot on the devil’s head, he can’t slither his way into your life. The demonic influence in your life will decrease if you keep your foot on the devil’s head. The demonic activity will decrease if you put your foot on the devil’s neck. We have the power in US to defeat the enemy. We shouldn’t entertain the thoughts of the devil. The Bible says we are to cast down EVERY vain imagination and every HIGH thing that has tried and attempted to exalt itself against the knowledge of God. The devil is trying to exalt himself in our lives with worldly temptations, with lust and perversion, with greed and with power. His endeavor is to take our minds off our assignment of keeping him under our foot and get our focus on anything that will take our feet off his head. I have power over the enemy and the power that God has given me is great. So no matter what the devil tries to bring, I’ll just put my foot on it!
